New Boat!

We've been busy the past few weeks working on the third a cat, taking exams, and sailing our new boat.  We picked the C2 up on Friday May, 11 and set it up on Saturday.  May 12th was the Bird Key Sarasota Bay cup. The final race we were able to see how the boat handled in a 12 to 15 knot sea breeze and it did great, holding 1st place until the final leg.  We rigged up some new systems to better focus on the sailing aspect of our training as opposed to constantly screwing around with bound up control lines and sheets, a problem that has plagued us for some time now. Monday was a great day with a 15 to 20 knot northwesterly wind that had us cruising down the bay downwind.  Tomorrow looks good with a 10 to 15 knot forecast.

Second Day of GYC Regatta

The second day was even better for us.  We sailed very well and even more consistently.  The breeze was very pleasant, blowing offshore at 10 knots and was quite shifty.  We found a way to get in sync with the shifts and sailed well enough to hold a lead each of the last three races, making them especially painful 3rd's.  The last race we were able to get the job done despite the failure of my trapeze, resulting in a swim! We found a nice lefty and were able to find our way across the fleet.  Taylor kept it too tight for my comfort downwind!  We finished the day 2 2 3 3 1  and ended the regatta 3rd, just five points out of second!
